Small Game Hunting in Alaska
Donate Wings and Tails
Do you want to assist the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) with collection of valuable age and sex data from this year's grouse and ptarmigan harvest?
How you can help
Remove the following:
- One whole, clean, intact wing (BOTH grouse and ptarmigan)
- Five or six tail feathers from center of tail including rump feathers (grouse ONLY)
- Head, if possible, to identify between rock and willow ptarmigan (ptarmigan ONLY)
Enclose wing/tail feathers of each bird, along with the head (if possible) if the bird is a ptarmigan, in an envelope with date of harvest and approximate location.
Using your wings for trapping? No problem, you can bring your wings and intact tails to us to sex and age and we'll return them to you.
Either drop off or mail your envelope(s) to the ADF&G offices listed below:

If you enclose your contact information, we'll be glad to send you a copy of the final report.
Thank you for contributing to the management of game birds in Alaska!
